ENERGY CONSERVATION POLICY
ABOUT THE ACTIVITY
The purpose of Energy Conservation policy is to put measures in place to realistically and comprehensively
reduce energy consumption, and improve energy efficiency in the school campus and spread awareness
about good practice and behaviour
BENEFITS OF POLICY FOR SCHOOL
1. Reduce and stabilise energy consumption across the school
2. Encourage a culture of energy conservation within students and staff
3. Reduce energy consumption throughout the school through the active efforts of students.
STEPS FOR THE ACTIVITY
DAAC President as a facilitator
Explain the purpose and importance of making an Energy Conservation policy for the school.
Select Method A or Method B as applicable to your school and describe the activity to students.
Method A
As per your research, if your school has an existing policy for Energy Conservation, distribute the copy of
the policy among groups and explain the task.
I. Each group will check the details and read the policy as given below:
1. Date of Policy
2. Members of the committee
3. Where has it been displayed?
4. How is it communicated to students?
5. Who monitors/supervises the actual implementation of policy?
II. Come up with the area of improvement based on your Energy Audit Report and presented sug-
gestions to reduce energy consumption.
III. Make a separate amendment sheet, including your group’s suggestions.
IV. Display them in the classroom.
V. One representative from each group will come and present.
Method B
If there is no policy in your school, divide the students into groups, and explain the task.
1. Distribute the policy formation handout to each group.
3
2. Ask them to discuss within the group, what all statements should go into the Policy documents as
per your learnings during Energy Audit.
3. Finalise 10 points to be included in the draft policy and display the same in the classroom.
4. One representative from the group will come and present the points and why they want these
points to be included in the draft policy.
CLOSURE -
I. Discuss and finalise the draft policy
II. DAAC President and the Vice President need to
A. Compile the amendment sheets of all groups and submit the copy to Principal and com-
mittee members for approval.
OR
B. Collate all points and finalise the draft policy with the help of the DA teacher and pre-
sent it to the Principal.
Points to remember
1. The policy should be based on your observations and recommendations on Energy usage on the
school campus.
2. At least 2 teachers should be involved during the formulation of the new policy.
3. After the final draft, DAAC members need to take approval from the Principal with signature and
stamp of the school.
4. Final copies should be displayed at prominent areas like Entrance Hall, Assembly hall, Classrooms,
Computer, and other labs, Staff room, etc.
4
